Question
Can people use foot grounders if they are wearing panty hose or long stockings etc. If so, how is conductivity achieved ? - Anonymous, Hayward, CA
Answer
Foot grounders should function properly when worn by people wearing socks, stockings or pantyhose. Conductivity is achieved by the “sweat layer” that naturally occurs within the shoe between the foot and inner sole. When first donned, it may take up to 15 minutes for the foot to warm up enough to create a sufficient “sweat layer” between the foot grounder’s conductive tab the sock/stocking/hosiery and the actual foot. Each operator should be qualified (pass an electrical test) before they can start working on ESDS devices with an appropriate foot grounder tester.
