Question
We have customers who manufacture printed circuit boards and ask for an antistatic wheel. There are wheel manufacturers who offer wheels made of conductive rubber or conductive neoprene. Are antistatic and conductive the same thing? - Barbara, Kent, WA
Answer
Anti-static means that the wheel rolls on the floor, it will not generate a voltage over 250 Volts. A conductive wheel may not be anti-static, but if rolling on an ESD floor will dissipate its charges into the floor. A wheel that is both conductive and anti-static would be ideal. It would neither generate excessive charge nor hold a charge when exposed to a conductor.
