Our operators perform soldering work on dissipative (borderline conductive) hard mats. They find the surface too slippery to work on, so they have taken to using pieces of conductive rubber floor mat as portable working surfaces. Are there problems with this practice? - Anonymous, Mansfield, MA
Answer
The portable floor mat should be okay if the floor mat is grounded and the surface resistance is above 3x10
3
ohms. A better solution would be to use dissipative work mats that are not slippery and are designed for soldering we sell quite a few of these types of items.
