Question
How do you determine where a material in question fits into the Triboelectric Series? -Anonymous, Louisville, Kentucky
Answer
Good question. The Triboelectric Series Chart currently was not derived from repeatable scientific data and formulas, but has been made by observations of repetitive tests. The main reason for this is that the tests are not repeatable, i.e., we are treading into uncharted waters. I suspect that when a Unified Field Theory is formulated, this problem will vanish. For now, it is more a ‘black art’ then a science. Where your material fits into the chart can be approximated by testing various materials in reference to your material under test and ‘fitting’ it in to relative similarly charged materials.
