Question
What is the appropriate ESD test for a populated PCB? The intent is to stress the board to simulate handling and shipment. Testing is being performed where PCB/flex qualifications are conducted. It was quickly discovered that 15kV pretty much kills any exposed circuit. - Anonymous, Lawrenceville, GA
Answer
There are two main models to use for testing your PCB board, the Human Body Model (HBM) and the Charge Device Model (CDM). Both of these models are standards published by the ESD Association (http://esda.org/ ).
