Question
We are in the process of laying antistatic carpeting in the production area. I would be obliged if you can give me the appropriate method in which such a carpet should be laid. Are there specific quality standards that have to be met? -Anonymous, San Gwann, Malta
Answer
There are no current standards that I know of specifically for Carpets. Your best bet is to check with the manufacturer for installation instructions and make sure the carpet will meet the manufacturers specs once laid down according to their instructions. The ESD Association does have a standard for ESD Floors, ESD S7.1 which essentially says to keep the floor below 1x10

ohms. I hope your ESD carpet is also conductive in the dissipative range as well as low triborcharging (antistatic). You can visit the ESD Associations web site at: http://esda.org/
